Hitachi
An NFC-driven matching game for Hitachi Rail (now part of Thales) — visitors match a physical train token to its train on a large LED wall via 9 hidden NFC readers, shown at Innotrans 2024.
Built for Hitachi Rail — acquired by Thales not long ago — this installation pairs two LED screens with an application that reads 9 different NFC readers hidden inside a piece of furniture. Each reader sits under a wooden token depicting a train; the app detects which token was placed on which reader and matches it to the corresponding train shown on the LED wall, turning the stand into a game for visitors.
Fitting the NFC readers meant opening them up and carefully trimming the reader cards down so everything would fit inside the furniture without damaging them — a fiddly bit of hardware work behind the scenes.
It ran at Innotrans 2024 in Germany, one of the biggest rail industry trade shows.
